Yom HaShoah Haikus
I really love Haikus.
The 5-7-5 (syllable) structure gives order and rhythm to my thoughts when they want to take the form of poetry. Here are a few Haikus I wrote (to send to my family) in honor of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day.

6 million lives
How do we honor their souls
In Love and not grief?
The sand and the sea
Engulfed our righteous heroes
Spirit called in song
Though the pain runs deep
Our remembrance is healing
The angels listen
God never left us
We, humans, chose the darkness
And let light back in
69 years since
We saw the truest depth of
Cruelty and grace
Let us say Kaddish
And Rise for those who cannot
How do we honor their souls
In Love and not grief?
The sand and the sea
Engulfed our righteous heroes
Spirit called in song
Though the pain runs deep
Our remembrance is healing
The angels listen
God never left us
We, humans, chose the darkness
And let light back in
69 years since
We saw the truest depth of
Cruelty and grace
Let us say Kaddish
And Rise for those who cannot
Their memory blessed
Thinking of you all
Family; the pulse of life
Love, love, love, love love
Thinking of you all
Family; the pulse of life
Love, love, love, love love
